Breastfeeding: Beyond the Basics


Now that you have the basics down, let’s talk all about breastfeeding, pumping, and maintaining supply past the 6 week mark. Things can get a little tricky as babies appetite grows, you get back into your work routine, or you’re fighting off a cold.

Your partner or support person is more than welcome and encouraged to join you if possible. The more support the better.

In this class we’ll cover:

  • Growth spurts, cluster feeding, colds (medications), and teething

  • Troubleshooting supply issues

    • Power pumping

    • Hydration, nutrition, rest, frequency

  • Introducing a bottle and paced bottle feeding

  • Pumping (and hand expressing) and storing your milk

    • Types of pumps

    • Sizing

    • Cleaning

    • Storage methods, locations and duration

  • Going back to work (the Reasonable Breaktime for Nursing Mothers law)

  • Chestfeeding/Pumping and self care - nutrition, hydration, and stress

  • Troubleshooting challenges that may arise

  • Q+A
